Greetings,

I am a citizen of Canada and worked for a company in the US for some time on TN visa on hourly wages. Prior to getting my citizenship in Canada, I lived in the US and have a US Social Security Number. My employer has asked me to fill Form W9 and send it to them for tax with holding purposes. I have a few questions about how I can get paid and about taxes:

  1. Does a TN holder have to fill Form W9 to get paid?
  2. Form W9 says that it is only for US citizens or Resident Aliens. On the form it is also mentioned that foreign citizens use Form W8. So do I need to fill Form W8 and send it to my employer?
  3. Can a TN holder get paid hourly wages on 1099?

Your help is very much appreciated.

Regards,
